How to Dior?
The meaning of “To Dior” can be interpreted very differently. For me personally the term means to showcase how the feminine exists outside of constructed gender roles. My understanding of the term was inspired by the famous New look by Christian Dior, with which he celebrated the feminine side of women in the 1950s.
I want to embrace the divine feminine inside all of us, but especially in the more masculine bodies around me.
After analyzing Dior’s latest work in my Fashion project group and working on the topic simultaneously by my own in the course Fashion design III, I came to the conclusion, that experimenting freely in defining our reality is the new Dior.
In late Dior shows we see Maria Grazia Chiuri and Kim Jones focusing on recent social issues and changes. Maria celebrates women by supporting a new feminist era of Dior.
We all carry the divine feminine within us. This phenomenon can’t be expressed by words. Embrace it as you feel it. Always.
Class Objectives
In the context of the course Fashion Project II students developed a collection concept based on the topic “Fragments”. Every student could individually decide how to include the theme DIOR. The creative process was initiated by the students collecting favourite designs, ideas, inspiring textile prints, colours and fabrics, thus all fragments from previous project research that had not been implemented up to that point in time. The research was the starting point for developing the concept.
